Grok Bot’s computer guide distinguishes maintenance from rollback: Update installs current software while retaining files, whereas Reset rebuilds from the most recent saved snapshot and may discard newer changes. The guide says recovery is offered from an unreachable-computer error state. Both it and the troubleshooting guide carry October 12 update dates; neither dates the original introduction of these behaviors. This is an analysis of documented recovery choices, not a new release announcement.
The troubleshooting guide recommends retrying or reopening the conversation, restarting the app, and trying recovery or update before reset. It also warns that cloud work may continue while the desktop or mobile app is disconnected. That matters when the interrupted task involves an external action: an unavailable interface alone cannot establish whether an upload, message or other requested change succeeded. The documentation does not promise that every unfinished change is recoverable from a snapshot.
Editorial take: Before repeating a task after a connection failure, check the intended destination for its result and tell the Bot to reconcile what already exists. Where possible, save an accessible copy of important unfinished files before accepting a reset. If the computer cannot be reached, distinguish that unknown state from a confirmed failure rather than immediately starting the same action again. A recovery checklist should protect both the latest work and against accidental duplication. We have not tested Grok Bot’s recovery or snapshot behavior.
