OpenAI’s current Dots messaging guide says adding a dot to a Slack channel does not establish a monitoring schedule. Users should specify the channels, changes to watch for and notification timing, then ask the dot to confirm the recurring task. By default, the dot responds to its owner; engaging with other people needs an instruction, with existing safeguards still applying.
Changing channels preserves the dot’s context without mirroring every conversation into Slack or Teams. Sharing private information with other people requires permission. A companion connections guide adds that a messaging channel does not connect an inbox, another app or a local computer: those have separate access requirements. Neither page supplies a publication date, so these are existing documented conditions rather than a new announcement.
Editorial take: An agent’s presence in a project channel can create expectations nobody configured. A useful handoff names the source, the signal and the audience for the result. Before relying on it for a launch deadline, confirm the monitoring exists and the agent can reach the source. A successful mention proves it can answer there, not that it is watching continuously.
