OpenAI’s October 12–16 weekly digest lists new ways to reach a dot on iPhone: a Home Screen widget and an Apple Shortcuts action. The company says these features are rolling out with ChatGPT for iOS 1.2026.279 and require existing dot access. The digest identifies a week rather than an exact release day, so it does not establish that every eligible account already has the feature.

The setup guide says the widget opens the conversation with its composer ready. Optional message and call controls are disabled by default. The Open your dot shortcut offers Messaging, Dictation and Call modes, and a saved shortcut can be assigned to the Action button on supported iPhones. The action opens ChatGPT and requires authentication. Dictation is unavailable during an active call; a shortcut associated with another account may require signing back into the account that owns the dot.

Editorial take: This is a convenience update for capturing a thought or returning to ongoing work. A widget or hardware shortcut can reduce the steps between noticing something and telling an assistant about it. Choose the mode around the situation: typing for a quiet room, dictation for a short note, or a call for a longer exchange. We have not tested these entry points or measured their responsiveness; the documented rollout should not be read as an availability guarantee for a particular phone.
