OpenAI’s September 14 changelog sets October 14 as the retirement date for GPT-5.5 in ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex across all plans. The OpenAI API is excluded. For Dots users, the relevant connection is delegated work: OpenAI documents that a dot can create Work or Codex tasks and continue existing local Codex threads. This deadline concerns those workflows where GPT-5.5 is selected; it does not establish which model powers the dot itself.

The current migration guide tells users to replace GPT-5.5 references in saved settings, workspace defaults, custom agents, scheduled tasks and scripts. For Codex with ChatGPT sign-in, it recommends GPT-6 Sol on eligible paid plans when available. Administrators also need to check access on each affected client: changing a default does not grant permission to use its replacement. These are published migration instructions, not findings from a hands-on test or evidence that every delegated task needs changing.

Editorial take: Before the deadline, inspect the recurring jobs and existing coding threads your dot relies on, rather than only its main conversation. Where a task explicitly selects GPT-5.5, choose an available replacement and review a low-risk run. Check the resulting output and any errors before relying on the next unattended execution.
