OpenAI’s October 9 announcement says a dot can start Codex work and follow existing threads using context from ChatGPT conversations, Codex threads and automations. The update also improves the choice between continuing a thread and opening another. It is a delegation feature for ongoing work, not an announcement that all coding tasks run in one conversation.
The same announcement says dots can review and edit scheduled tasks in ChatGPT Work. That gives the user a conversational route to inspect recurring work or revise it when plans change. The announcement does not promise that every prior task is automatically resumed or every schedule is automatically rewritten.
Editorial take: Continuity matters when a project has already accumulated decisions, files and unfinished steps. The valuable outcome is a handoff that preserves those decisions without making the person repeat them. A useful first test is a bounded follow-up on an existing thread, with a clear description of what should count as finished.
